Chamberland Engineering Associates and SMICO Partners in Excellence!

Chamberland Engineering Associates is proud to continue our relationship with SMICO Manufacturing

SMICO or Southwest Milling and Industrial Company history rivals that of any other American screener manufacturer for respect and longevity. Our history can be traced all the way back to 1937 and beyond. During the early days, the company was called Productive Equipment and was located in Chicago, IL. Productive Equipment was the leader in screening and classification equipment for the many milling and feed operations that surrounded the booming city in those days.

In 1947, Frank Shidler founded SMICO and began marketing his own screener designs to the milling industries surrounding his home. Just 10 years later in 1957, Frank merged SMICO with Productive Equipment and moved both companies, under the SMICO name, to the current production location in Oklahoma City.

While under Mr. Shidler’s leadership, SMICO expanded rapidly and soon developed screening designs for a variety of other applications, such as the SELECTRO used in concrete, foundry, sand and gravel and other applications. SELECTRO units were known for their durability and long service life and soon became the standard in both the foundry and concrete industries.

SMICO notoriety grew so rapidly that SMICO was contacted to introduce the round screener to the American market. The round screener was developed in England, by WM Barton LTD. SMICO had the first rights in the US to distribute the screener, but that relationship was short-lived because Mr. Shidler believed as we do today, that the traditional, rectangular design was superior in every way to the circular designs on the market. SMICO still offers circular screeners but only as a supplement to the traditional design.

During the oil boom of the late 70’s and mid 80’s SMICO added a new product to its line of screeners specifically for the oil industry – the shale shaker. SMICO manufactured shale shakers for some of the biggest names in oil including Bariod and Swaco. Today, SMICO has relationships with some of the most well known mud engineers in the country to provide clients with best shaker designs possible.

Since Mr. Shidler’s passing, the original name, drawings and dedication to quality have survived and have been going strong under the leadership of Randall Stoner. Today, the company is a privately held interest including Mr. Stoner and two business partners, Erick Heald and Tim Douglass. Our current line includes quality machinery such as: conveyors, separators, feeders, shakers, sifters as well as our flagship product, vibrating screeners ranging in sizes from 12”x1’ to 8”x20’. SMICO machines serve a variety of industries including, mining and aggregate production, construction, food and pharmaceutical production, oil exploration and refining, recycling and the glass/plastic industries to name just a few.

In addition, SMICO is the leader in custom screening technology. In today’s market, there is not a single other major screener manufacturer willing to customize their machines to the level that SMICO does for its clients. Over the last 70 years SMICO has made a name for itself as being customer focused while being obsessed with quality and today SMICO continues to offer the highest level of support and response to our client’s needs while retaining our signature, American-Made quality.
